Tauranga cruise passengers' guide to Hobbiton

Cruise ships calling at Tauranga berth at the Port of Tauranga in Mount Maunganui, and Hobbiton is one of the most popular shore days. Time is the main thing to manage.

Start with your all-aboard time

Your ship's all-aboard time is the one deadline that can't move. Work backwards from it: return drive, tour length, arrival buffer, then the outbound drive. Your cruise line's daily programme has the exact times for your port day.

Then book a Hobbiton tour time that fits, at hobbitontours.com.

The route

From the port the road heads inland on SH29 over the Kaimai Range to the Waikato side, and Hobbiton is on that side of the range. The Kaimai road is a steep, winding hill road, and weather or roadworks can slow it, so allow a buffer.

Private wait-and-return

With a private wait-and-return transfer, your driver meets you at the port, waits during your tour and brings you straight back, with no strangers to wait for. Our Tauranga cruise ship to Hobbiton page has live prices and a pickup helper.

Hobbit Cabs is independent and provides transport only. Hobbiton Movie Set tour tickets are sold by the official operator.
