The route
The road journey leaves Rotorua on SH5 and connects with SH28 towards the Hinuera and Matamata area. Your accommodation address determines the first part of the drive through Rotorua before reaching the state highway network.
From the Hinuera approach, local roads lead to Buckland Road and the destination at Hobbiton Movie Set, 501 Buckland Road, Hinuera, Matamata. Road conditions and traffic may affect the final routing. Refer to the live information on the page for the current journey estimate, rather than using this general road description to calculate your own departure.
Wait and return
Returning to Rotorua afterwards can be included in a wait-and-return request. Tell us whether you want to finish at the original pickup address or somewhere different, and include any stops you would like considered. The office can then confirm the overall transport arrangement. Both directions carry full fares, so review the return leg alongside the outward journey rather than assuming waiting includes the drive back.
Use your accommodation as the starting point
The Rotorua i-SITE address provides a useful route example, but it does not have to be your meeting place. Replace it with the hotel, motel, holiday accommodation or other full address where you want collection. Include a property name if that makes the location easier to recognise.
Think about practical access as well as the street address. A reception entrance, shared driveway or separate accommodation unit may need a short note. For parties staying at multiple properties, list each requested pickup in advance; the booking allows up to ten stops on a leg.
Build the transfer around confirmed admission
Reserve your Hobbiton Movie Set tickets with the official operator at hobbitontours.com before relying on a particular visit in your travel plans. Our booking is for transport only, so an available vehicle does not confirm admission or make an operator reservation on your behalf.
Once your tour time is confirmed, use the pickup helper on this page. We suggest reaching the destination 15–20 minutes before that time. Make sure the pickup address and any intermediate stops are correct so the suggested departure reflects the journey you actually intend to book.
Keep the day simple for your group
Private transport lets your party travel together with a collection arranged for your own booking. Choose a Standard sedan for up to three passengers, Premium for up to four, an XL 7-seater for up to six, or a Large van for up to ten. Mention bags and larger items when choosing between categories.
You can see an instant online price without first providing contact details. Payment is accepted by card only, with a 20% deposit outside December and January, when the deposit is 50%. The remaining balance is due within 24 hours or before pickup, so check the payment requirements as you complete the reservation.
Your driver's name, car and phone details appear 24 hours before collection. Keep those details available on the day, and use WhatsApp if that is your preferred contact method. Clear communication is particularly helpful when a property has more than one entrance or several people are coordinating the booking.
Hobbiton Movie Set tour tickets are sold only by the official operator — book yours at hobbitontours.com. Hobbit Cabs provides transport only.
Questions
Do we have to meet at Rotorua i-SITE?
No, that address is the example used for this page. Enter your own Rotorua pickup location to obtain a route and fare based on where your party will actually be waiting.
Can we continue somewhere else afterwards?
Provide the full onward destination when discussing the trip. A transfer to another town should be planned as its own leg rather than assumed to be covered by a Rotorua return arrangement.
Can several Rotorua properties be included?
Add the collection addresses as stops before booking. There is a maximum of ten stops per leg, and the full itinerary should be considered when checking the suggested pickup.
What if we need transport very soon?
For requests under three hours before departure, office approval and a card hold are required. There is no surcharge simply for booking at short notice, but confirmation depends on approval.
Where can we compare the fare?
Use the live price above with your actual addresses and selected vehicle. This copy deliberately leaves pricing to the booking tools so you can review the fare for your own journey.
